Twenty years ago, the Florida House was the nation’s first “green” building open to the public and helped catalyze the green building industry. Today, Florida House is poised to be the country’s first high-performance demonstration of improvements and retrofit strategies for existing buildings and communities.
A remodeled demonstration house and yard, high-tech meeting spaces, great facilitation, and access to community expertise are a winning combination for creating, testing and implementing new ideas, business opportunities, and policy. Florida House is the place where we can help each other learn, strengthen the local economy and adapt in a changing world.
Visitors will be able to walk through the Florida House and yard for real-world examples about how to save energy, water, and money. They can view and touch the latest products and learn about services that will help them live more affordably and efficiently, reduce their demands for imports, and build markets for local businesses.
Throughout the day, there will be live music by Mike Royal, Passerine, Dennis Brock, and Greg Poulos. Transition Sarasota's Executive Director, Don Hall, will speak from the event's main stage between 2:45 and 3:00pm.
