As Transition Sarasota's Suncoast Gleaning Project enters its seventh season, learn how you can get involved in supporting local farms, local food banks, and the food insecure in our community - all at the same time!
Those who have participated in this project in the past have greatly enjoyed the camaraderie experienced in the fields, the bag full of fresh produce they are invited to take home each week, and the pride they get from knowing they are making a real difference. Nearly 200,000 pounds of organic fruits and vegetables have been donated to local food banks to date.
While we won't know for sure if there will be anything for us to glean until the day before this event, for each of the past six seasons, the first harvest at Jessica's Organic Farm has taken place on fourth Monday in October.
Regardless of the harvest, you will receive a tour of Jessica's and an orientation to the gleaning process. Afterwards, we will carpool to All Faiths Food Bank for a guided tour of their facilities - including their mobile produce market, Sprout.
