Picket at Wendy's for Farmworker Justice

  • Wendy's 1601 South Tamiami Trail Sarasota, FL, 34239 United States

Join farmworkers and consumer allies from across the Sarasota area to amplify the national Wendy's Boycott, launched by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers last March in response to Wendy's continued refusal to join the Fair Food Program -- a proven solution to farmworker poverty and abuse in U.S. agriculture.

Rather than participate in what was called the "best workplace-monitoring program" in the U.S. by the New York Times, Wendy's ran away from responsibility and abandoned the Florida tomato industry altogether in shifting purchases to Mexico. Although all of its principal fast food competitors -- McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Subway -- have committed to human rights for farmworkers and are participating in the CIW's Fair Food Program alongside 10 other corporations and growers making up 90% of Florida's tomato industry, Wendy's remains the fast food holdout opting to profit from farmworker abuse. For these reasons, thousands of farmworkers, students, people of faith, and consumers of conscience are refusing to patronize Wendy's until the world's third-largest hamburger chain joins the Fair Food Program.
