Join us to tour and learn about the Permaculture Food Forest at Bay Haven School of Basics Plus. The food forest is an integrated living system, whose plants and animals support each other to create a dynamic and biodiverse ecosystem. The edible landscape provides Bay Haven students, staff and families with fresh fruit and other edibles such as moringa and perennial greens, in addition to serving as an outdoor learning space. Students learn life science topics such as life cycles, plant reproduction and soil ecology, create artwork inspired by the various plants and animals and enjoy a small oasis in the center of the campus. Light bites by Sharon Carr and beverages will be provided.
The Permaculture Food Forest was planned and installed by the following groups: the U.S. Green Building Council; Slow Food of Greater Sarasota; the Tropical Fruit Society of Sarasota; Food and Nutrition Services of Sarasota County Schools; the Sarasota Bay and Estuary Program; Bay Haven staff, students and families; and McIntyre Elwell & Strammer General Contractors, Inc.
Donations will be accepted on-site to support the Bay Haven School of Basics Plus.
