After realizing that there were virtually no micro-lending opportunities for farmers in their communities, Slow Money Northwest teamed up with North Coast Credit Union and food sector incubator, Viva Farms, to devise a creative solution: A unique loan loss reserve fund that leverages available funds to hedge risks that were preventing financial institutions from lending locally and starving the local food system.

This innovative program has multiplied access to capital for farmers in need while providing them with technical assistance.

This final meeting in our Slow Money "Pathways to Action" series will feature a webinar presented by Slow Money NW's Director, Tim Crosby, followed by group discussion and an invitation to become part of a team working to establish a "Farmer Reserve Fund" in our region.
