This tour, free with admission to the Sarasota County Fair, is part of a local foods exhibit which runs throughout the Fair (Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 22) and offers an opportunity to learn where your food is coming from, why it matters, and what you can do to be more informed about what you eat. Both are part of Sarasota County’s Local Food Initiative, which is aimed at increasing supply, demand, and access to local foods.
Building on the exhibit, the tour will provide an even deeper look into what's happening at the Fair and in local agriculture in general. Participants will meet local agricultural professionals and have the opportunity to take home information and other valuable resources. The tour will end with face painting and other children’s activities at the site of the exhibit.
The exhibit and tour are both sponsored by UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County in partnership with the Sarasota County Fair, the Cattlemen’s Association, the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, Transition Sarasota, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Market Maker, and Sarasota County Schools.
