North American Winner

First Half

For the past 23 years, an International Children's Painting Competition has been a regular feature of the annual World Environment Day organized by the United Nations. The tradition continues this year, as Sarasota County serves as the official North American host for World Environmental Day 2014. With 50 of the best paintings from this year's competition currently on display at Ringling College of Art and Design, we'll hear from its two winners: North American first-place winner, Jiade Guo, and local first-place winner, Andrew Torres.

Second Half

The 2014-2015 hurricane season officially began on June 1st and runs through November 30th - that's 172 days we have left to prepare for. In the second half of this show, Sarasota County's Emergency Management Chief, Ed McCrane, will share what individuals, neighborhoods, and local governments can do (and are already doing) to get ready. We'll also discuss how well Sarasota County is prepared for more long-term emergency scenarios such as climate change, prolonged food and energy shortages, and the after-effects of a major financial collapse.
