Transition Sarasota’s Initiatives

Suncoast Gleaning Project

For over 9 years, Transition Sarasota has partnered with farms in Manatee and Sarasota Counties to glean excess produce and donate it to the area food banks. This provides local, nutritious produce to diverse populations, supports local farms with a tax deduction for donated produce, and builds community by uniting volunteers with an interest in local, sustainable food.

Eat Local Week

Eat Local Week was created to explore the connections between food, health, the natural environment, art, culture, social justice, the economy and everything in between. Food is an integral piece to our survival and enjoyment of life. We celebrate with it, we grieve with it, and we’re constantly learning more about it. Though Eat Local Week, Transition Sarasota aims to connect and educate the community with local food options, opportunities and challenges. By being active participants in our local food community we invest in the regional economy, and build a stronger network and ecosystem for all who live here.
