Dear Friend of Transition,
The song in the video posted above is supposed to be funny, but as you know, the stakes involved in our transition to a more sustainable society are quite serious. As is well-documented in the new film “Racing Extinction,” we are currently in the midst of just the sixth mass extinction event in our planet's 4.5 billion year history, and this one is being caused by us.
We can't let that happen. This world is far too beautiful and life far too precious to be considered disposable. And while recent victories like the Paris Agreement and Pope Francis' encyclical on the environment are encouraging, if sustainability doesn't happen community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, block by block, it really won't happen at all.
That's where we come in. The international Transition Network – which is now active in 50 countries worldwide – is working to create change from the bottom up by empowering people, presenting a viable alternative to the status quo, and creating “tiny microcosms of hope” that prove a better world possible for us all.
Here in Sarasota, we're doing our part by spreading the Transition vision to thousands of new people each year, growing our local food economy by 33% annually, and training hundreds of Transition leaders from all over the U.S. While this is a great start, with your generous support, we can do so much more, including launching new programs like Transition Streets, reviving our Common Wealth Time Bank, and expanding the reach of our Eat Local Resource Guide & Directory.
Furthermore, with a new Board of Directors in place and an increasingly active presence throughout our community (at The Hub, the Sarasota Farmers Market, and elsewhere), we are ready to take our work to the next level in 2016. Please join us in doing so by making a tax-deductible year-end gift to Transition Sarasota no later than December 31st.
Thank you very much for all that you do, and happy holidays!
Executive Director, Transition Sarasota
