A little history about Transition Sarasota

Building Resilience
Through Community

Our Mission

Community Harvest SRQ (Transition Sarasota) is a non-profit organization, of the greater Transition US movement, committed to developing community-driven solutions for our local food system.

Our vision is a sustainable, just, and thriving local food system. We proudly serve Sarasota, Manatee Counties and surrounding areas, advocating for local growing, sourcing, and economic benefit.

WHAT WE DO

Transition Sarasota D/B/A Community Harvest SRQ was founded in 2010 with a goal to strategically address food waste, increase food access, and address climate change through community-driven solutions for our local food system. We currently have 3 food rescue programs and  support our community through Eat Local Week and our online Eat Local Guide.

WHAT WE ARE SOLVING

By rescuing food, we address both hunger and climate change. Between 30-40% of the food supply is wasted, while 44 million people in the US are food insecure. Food waste contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, which affect climate change. It only makes sense to redirect food we already have to fill that gap.
